The epidemic of rape culture & how they are getting away with it.
Why does society hate women so much?
My youngest dog is just seven months old, a ball of infinite love and joy, I absolutely adore him. Recently he has, er, come of age, and enjoys nothing more than dominating my middle dog, mounting him from the minute he wakes up, on walks, everywhere, all the time. Its embarrassing, sure, but its literally not his fault, as a male dog he is just doing what is in his nature, following his instinct, and at this stage, simply playing, he has no control over his urges…
So when men accused of sexual assault use excuses like ‘she was wearing a short skirt’ or ‘she was drunk but she was bang up for it’ or ‘she’d been flirting with me all night’ what they are actually admitting to is that they have absolutely zero control over their sexual desires, like an un-neutered animal. That they were so filled with lust and testosterone that they simply had to put their penis where it wasn’t wanted. That they saw the flash of thigh/passed out woman/ woman dancing/ woman walking alone and decided they were going to have her, at all costs, whether she wanted it or not. Now for the scary part, the fact that these excuses for out and out brutality hold up in court.
There is a rape epidemic, now more prevalent than ever, the media alight with stories of powerful man after powerful man committing a smorgasbord of atrocities that have undoubtedly destroyed countless lives. There are the incredulous shouts from the papers and social media of ‘how did he get away with it for so long?’ or the more nefarious ‘why has the victim only come forward now?’ When Rose McGowan so bravely outed the obese pig-monster Weinstein, she was met with a torrent of abuse to the tune of ‘she’s forty and hasn’t had a film role in a while, she’s just trying to get publicity/money. When Ambra Gutierrez, an Italian model, literally caught Weinstein’s filth on tape while wearing a wire, and delivered it to the NYPD, they did nothing, and Ambra’s life was systematically destroyed by the press, who plastered her most revealing modelling photos across their pages, together with her life story, basically saying, ‘Look! She’s posing in her underwear, she was asking for it!’
Because as a society, we LOVE to blame the woman. When a man cheats, its the other woman who is the slut, never the boyfriend/husband. The poor unassuming male led astray by the wiles of the unscrupulous femme fatale. That golden age-old excuse of ‘it was just sex, darling, it meant nothing!’ So, imagine the courage it takes to speak out for victims, only for them to be torn to pieces in the public arena of judgement, leaving them wishing that they had never said a word, that they had just quietly slipped away into the oblivion of trauma. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
We live in a world where sexual violence is accepted, joked about even ( I recently overheard a group of young men, one of which was dissecting his hook up the night before and how he had choked her until she almost passed out.) Porn seems to be a manual nowadays, these boys grow up watching the oft violent sexual debasing of women and think that’s how they should treat their partner. Its all about the mans pleasure, his dominant control. One of Russell Brands victims, who was just sixteen and a schoolgirl at the time, recounted how he would force his penis so far down her throat that she had to punch him the stomach to get him to stop…his response ‘alright, alright, calm down, I only wanted to see your mascara run anyway' again, she was a sixteen year old child, he was thirty. Sickening…but not according to his fans, including Elon Musk, who believe that it is all a conspiracy to bring him down. Who on earth gives enough of a shit about Brands ridiculous ranting to ‘bring him down’ remains to be seen. But, it alright, he’s found Jesus now, and Jesus forgives everyone, including rapists.
So back to the ‘why didn’t they come forward before?’ Well, the answer to that is, they probably did. But factor in this, going to the police is often a completely pointless task. Seeking justice for what happened is like running a gauntlet. Lets say the police start an investigation, the go-to for the powerful, rich man will be to get an aggressive team of hardcore lawyers to dish out a court order, no expense spared, to essentially gag you, silence you, shut you up at all costs. The victim, often poor or certainly not in the earning bracket to be able to afford their own legal team ( 100k upwards) will find themselves alone, the police knowing there is no way that the case will go anywhere, will drop the investigation. No, I’m afraid the law is very much not on the woman’s side either.
Of course, this is why these men think that they can do what they want and never face the consequences, primarily, they know that the law is on their side. They know that rape is notoriously hard to prove, quasi impossible if its historic. They know that a simple cry of ‘gold-digger/publicity seeker/whore/liar’ in the press will sow the seed of doubt, and their fans and gravy-train- riding enablers will back them up to the last. This also has the knock-on effect of frightening any other victims in coming forward, the ‘well look what happened to her’ serving as a warning to keep schtum.
Because, essentially, its all about power. Power over women, power to dominate. To make them feel like a big man. Weinstein, Epstein, Combs and co could have easily hired prostitutes to satisfy their libido, but it was never about sex. They hated women, they must have, to get off on the tears and fright, to debase, defile… what sad little men they truly are, what monsters. And yet, its the women who more often than not bares the brunt of the criticism, the hate. How is that possible?
The election of Trump says it all really.
